There are two ways to use this kind of test. One of them is the blood and urine tests for cortisol. Urine and blood tests for cortisol may be used to aid the diagnosis of Cushing's syndrome and Addison's disease, which are two very serious adrenal disorders.
Note that cortisol levels rose and sank at different periods of the day depending on the type of activities you are doing. In normal people, cortisol levels are usually very high when they just woke up.
